Kent Cross Country League, Somerhill School, Tonbridge (Sat. 26th Oct.)
In the young age group races the under 13 girls got things of to a good start in the second match winning the team event, reports Mark Newell, with all four athletes achieving their highest placed finish in this competition. There was another good turnout by the under 13 boys. Herbie Tobin was first to finish and it was good to see first time appearances this season from Raif Mendjeli, Otto Weir and Johnny Ravenscroft.
Delilah Lester (under 15 girls) used her 'fell running' experience to be first finisher for the club placing 8th over the hilly course. Celia Yeatman challenged Delilah all the way, finishing 3 seconds behind in 9th. Daniel Whitehouse (18th) was our first finisher in the under 15 boy's race.
Emer Tynan took second place in the under 17 women's race having challenged for first place earlier on and is second in the overall league standings. Amelia Lawrence (under 20) equalled her fifth place from the first match. This is Amelia's first year in this age group whilst those who finished ahead of her are in their second and third year in the age group.
Olly Buck (pictured - courtesy of Mark Hookway (TAC)) was once again in the mix for first place in the under 17 men's race. He eventually finished in second place which puts him first in the overall standings. Aniket Iyengar showed considerable improvement from last year placing 6th.
The senior men continued their impressive start to the Kent League campaign with a second successive race in which they came second in both the four and twelve to score competitions, reports Clem Dixon. Four of our first twelve from the first fixture were missing but the gaps were well filled with reinforcements: Arthur Roux, new member Joseph Wood and Geoff Smith, with Rob Shearer stepping up to be our twelfth scorer.
Bobby Babaker was again our first finisher (9th), this time Tom Brooke was next (14th) with Arthur, Chris Loudon and Danny Kendall packing well behind (17, 18 & 19). Danny and Ben Shearer were again 2nd and 3rd masters.
Earlier in the day Club President elect Peter Hadley was our only representative in the M70 race finishing 8th.
In all 28 of us enjoyed running 5 miles on this great course, some will be back in December when it will host the South of the Thames Championship race when we will get to do 7.5 miles.
The senior women emulated the men taking second team in the women's three and six to score competitions. Georgia Huddleston was our first finisher in 11th, followed closely Phoebe Cooper (13th) and Katie Sanders (17th) who was second W40.

Greenwich Schools Cross Country Championships, Avery Hill Park (Wed. 16th Oct.)
As part of the club’s on going attempts to promote the sport in Schools and attract new members we organised the annual Greenwich Schools Cross County Championships in Avery Hill Park. Fifteen of the Borough’s Secondary Schools sent teams along with 23 Junior Schools, as we added races for year 5 & 6 to the program for the firs time. In all we had 859 finishers and thanks should be given to all those who marshalled, organised the finish or gave out leaflets about the club. Special thanks to Brett Baker and Amelia Lawrence who “hared” four races each.
