Kent Champs

The club’s track and field stars were out in force at last weekend’s Kent champs. A 50% increase of entries on last year led to a 50% increase in our medal count and an even more impressive doubling of our gold medal count from 8 to 16. The Saturday programme was interrupted by some bad weather and an awful trial of a new start and false start system which led to one heat of the U15 boys 100m being run 4 times before they got it right ! Sunday was better day for weather and starting and it was great to see so many Cambridge harriers to the fore and supporters in the stands

We had 39 medallists in all so too many to mention in one report but some highlights as follows

Omari Markland Montgomery banished the ghost of last year’s champs when a pulled hamstring in the 400m final took him out for the season. This year he returned to win in a comfortable 50.68

Abigail Stewart won the most medals, taking gold in a rain soaked U17 hammer then bronzes in both the Discus and Shot Put

Dante Legister and Kacey Walters both achieve great doubles in the 100/ 200 and high Jump/ Long Jump respectfully

Cleo Agyepong cemented her position in the UK top two with a 12.88 win in the U15 Shot Put

Alex MacHeath broke the club record for the Under 17 3k walk with a time of 14.12.24

Last but not least commiserations to Mubarrak Salih who effectively ran five rounds of the U15 Boys 100m on Saturday due to the rubbish start system and still ran a pb of 12.00 in the final but just got squeezed out of the medals taking 4th place
