British Masters T & F Championships, Derby (Fri. 11th - Sun.13th Sept.)

The club was well represented at the British Masters Championships in Derby, with a number of strong performances across the middle-distance and field events.

Chris Loudon (M40) produced an outstanding performance in the 1500m, taking 1st place in a time of 4:02.98. Competing in the combined M35 and M40 race, Chris finished approximately six seconds clear of the field.

Edmund Adigwe (M50) also secured 1st place in the M50 1500m, recording an impressive time of 4:22.92.

In the W40 5000m, Lucy Marlow ran strongly to claim 2nd place, crossing the line in 19:41.07.

Natalie Mann (W40) contested all the throwing events, producing a consistent set of performances. She finished 2nd in the discus with a throw of 25.77m, 3rd in the weight throw with 9.84m, and 3rd in the javelin with 17.11m.

SEAA Fell Running Championships, Isle of Wight (Sat. 12th & Sun. 13th Sept.)

The Isle of Wight fell running series in Ventnor has hosted the South of England championships annually since 1999 and there has been a Cambridge contingent at most if not all of them, writes Clem Dixon.

SEAA medals are awarded for combined performances over the three races and medal wise this year was our most successful for some time: men's team silver (John O'Mahony, James Macdonald and Christian Poulton) and individual age category medals for John (M40 silver), James (M40 bronze), Christian (M60 gold) and Maggie Illingworth (W50 gold). Additionally there was a prize for Sophie Floyd, first junior female in the short first race, at 15 years of age the only one she was eligible to enter.

In all there were seven from the club running with various family members coming to support. On the second race there was also the welcome surprise of vocal encouragement from the Dixon and Carr families who happened to be on the island for a holiday.

All of the races in the series start on the seafront and all finish with the same steep descent back into town but take different routes. You start with a short sharp shock, straight up and straight back down, 235m of ascent in 3.8kms. From there they get progressively longer but not quite as pointy, there are even some flat bits! But it's not all about the running, it's a nice weekend away with multiple visits to The Volunteer, The Spyglass and The Crab and Lobster included.

As the fell running year comes towards its end it looks as if Christian, who has won our fell running competition for an incredible eight years in a row, will be handing over the John Finlay trophy (aka "The Rock") and that a new name will be inscribed on it: John O'Mahony.

Kent Relay Championships, Ashford (Sat. 12th Sept.)

The club’s relay teams enjoyed a highly successful day at these annual championships, picking up an impressive six golds, three silvers and one bronze, writes Mick Bond.

The gold-medal haul included victories in four of the eight 4 x 100m races, highlighting the strength and depth of the club’s relay squads.

Senior & Under 20 Women's Gold Medallists

Special mention goes to the U14 girls, who showed great resilience after being unfortunately disqualified in the 4 x 200m earlier in the day. They bounced back in style to claim silver in the 4 x 100m, with three members of the team still eligible for the U14 age group next year.

Senior Women's 4 x 100 - Showing how to win with three good change overs

South of England U18/U16 Inter Counties, Kingston (Sun. 13th Sept.)

This annual fixture marked the end of the summer track season for many athletes, reports Mick Bond. Six Cambridge Harriers were selected to represent the Kent team, although several more were selected but declined the invitation to take an end-of-season break.

In the field, there was success for Miya Cook, who smashed through the 40m barrier in the U16 javelin. Her best throw of 42.78m secured the victory.

Lizzie McKen was also in PB form, with her 10.50m triple jump earning her third place in the U16 event. Elsewhere, Elazar Adejinmi cleared 1.80m in the U16 boys' high jump to finish fourth.

Hans Nmaju comfortably won the U18 sprint hurdles in 14.37, while there was a welcome return to competition for Josh Wellings. His time of 1:59.40 earned him second place in the U18 800m.

Danielle Agyemang-Talbot matched Josh's second-place finish in the U18 200m, clocking 24.80.
