Woolwich Thames Path parkrun (Sat. 29th Aug.)

Once a year we like to target one of the parkruns in our local area and include it in our road running grand prix competition, reports Clem Dixon. This year it was the turn of the "Curly-Wurly", a quirkier parkrun than most: you run along the Thames Path from Woolwich towards Thamesmead before turning off to summit the mighty man-made Gallions Hill. At 20 metres above sea level it is no fell race and as the path to the top spirals round the hill rather than taking a more direct route (hence the nickname) the gradient is gradual enough to have only a slight effect on your pace. Then it is back the way you came so there is plenty of opportunity to cheer your clubmates.

Twenty of us turned out for the club of which Gavin Hows was the first, 4th in 18:10 with Julie Backley 3rd female in 21:27. But it is age graded percentage that we use in our grand prix on which basis Rose Baker was top scorer once again with an impressive 87 points to put her well on her way to a third consecutive title. RunThrough Dulwich Park 10k (Sun. 30th Aug.)

Jonathan Sargent was the club’s sole representative, racing strongly to secure an impressive 7th-place finish in 39:26.

Tonbridge AC Bank Holiday Open, Tonbridge School Centre (Mon. 31st Aug.)

Obinna Aniebo produced an outstanding personal best in the U16 shot put, throwing a huge 20.80m to move to the top of the UK rankings. The performance added more than a metre to his previous best and underlined his growing potential.
