Weekly Update

Updated: Sep 26, 2021

The club’s two Junior teams had their last league fixtures of the season last weekend. On Saturday the Under 15/U13 team were at Medway Sports Park in Gillingham and finished 3rd behind Blackheath and Medway but ahead of Bexley and Paddock Wood and Folkestone.

On the boys side highlights included a 46.75m javelin throw by Under 15 Josh Baker (who also ran a 12.44s hurdles and 26.32m discus throw to show his multi-event potential). Josh Wellings showed similar potential with wins in the 800m and B string shot along with a 1.33 high jump.

On the girl’s side Faith Assah, Nuriah Orhurhu, Keziah Olaleye and Zafirah Alebiosu combined to break the club record in the Under 15 4x100 relay with a time of 49.58s and might even go faster at the Kent relays at Sutcliffe this coming Sunday.

On Sunday it was the turn of the U20/U17 team to compete this time at the Central Park track in Dartford. Again, we finished mid table behind Blackheath and Tonbridge but ahead of Dartford and Ashford.

Dejaune Lingard was the star turn easing down in the 200m to win in 21.7s a time which means he now tops the UK rankings for both 100 and 200m in the Under 17 age group. In the field there were good wins for Hannah Bridge with a shot put of 12.85m and Chichi Cooper in the triple jump 10.86m.

Best race of the day however was between two or our promising hurdlers with Aaron Abayomi and Carlos Rojo-Thigo running neck and neck over the full length of the 100 hurdles but with Aaron just getting the verdict of the judges as both recorded 14.9s.

This weekend sees the final Southern Athletics League fixture of the year for the senior team at Norman Park on Saturday and the Kent Relay Championships at Sutcliffe Park on Sunday (11am start).
