Kent Under 13 Pentathlon Championships, Tonbridge (Mon. 25th Aug.)

Oladesire Ayinla dominated the fist three events winning the high jump with 1.72m, hurdles in 12.26s and shot with 9.63m and then did enough in the long jump and 800m to win the Kent title by nearly 500 points with 1938, improving the club record by 195 points.

CCC | Courmayeur-Champex-Chamonix 100km / 6156m Elevation (Fri. 29th Aug.)

The CCC, first held in 2006 as a half-loop of the UTMB course, is now one of the world’s most highly regarded 100km ultras and the wider UTMB series final of that distance.

Starting in Courmayeur, Italy, this race covers the second half of the classic UTMB course, with a variation at the start. Runners climb to 2500m altitude to stunning views of the Mont Blanc massif and the Grandes Jorasses, along high balcony trails to the Grand Col Ferret, crossing into Switzerland and descending to La Fouly.

Fast-flowing trails dip in and out of traditional Swiss villages before a climb to Champex-Lac. The route winds through the woods above Champex, with runners cresting above tree line to views of the Rhône Valley and the Alpage of Bovine.

The race crosses three countries, covering +6000m of elevation, before ending in a crowd-packed finish at Chamonix. The cut-off time is 26h 30mins. Christian Poulton ran the CCC, finishing in 1007th place in 22:58:32 (19th M55)

Mid Cheshire 5k, Kingsley (Fri. 29th Aug.)

Personal best of 17:04 for Jack Beresford-Allen.

Southern Athletics League, Sutcliffe Park (Sat. 30th Aug.)

The final league fixture of the season saw us finish 3rd out of six in a very competitive fixture at Sutcliffe Park, reports Mick Bond & Omari Markland-Montgomery. For those who think the sport is struggling at senior level, this was a Southern League division two fixture, where most events had full fields and there were over 60 athletes doing non-scoring events. The strong head wind proved difficult for the track athletes.

Individual highlights on the men’s side included Elijah Olaleye tackling his first 400 hurdles with the higher hurdles that senior men use - 2nd in 56.11s, Daniel Obike winning the high jump with 1.93m and Ryan Lynott taking the B-string win with a PB of 1.78m. Callum Nason winning the javelin with 54.90m with good back up from Charlie Burgess who won the B String with 43.31m a PB.

On the women’s side there was an impressive return to 400m running for Faith Assah, winning comfortably in just outside 60 seconds and Amelia Lawrence winning a tactical 1500m with a sprint finish in 4:47.93s

Sportsshoes Home Nations 5k, Bute Park, Cardiff (Sat. 30th Aug.)

Holly Dixon finished 2nd in the elite women's race, held in torrential rain, with a time of 15:57, securing British silver in the UK Championships held in conjunction.

Blackheath and Bromley Open, Norman Park (Mon. 1st Sept.)

Kendrick Onolememen and Obinna Aniebo’s amazing first summer of athletics continues, writes Mick Bond, with some out of this world throwing at the Blackheath and Bromley Open meeting on Monday.

Competing in the discus event Kendrick threw 55.87m with his first effort to take him to the top of the UK all-time-lists, only to beat that again in the 5th round with 56.66m. Obinna did his best to match that and got close with his final throw of 54.04m. They now sit first and third on the all-time-list with our own Curtis Griffith-Parker in second, from his throw in 2005. Hats off to John Hillier who has coached all three of them.
