Cambridge Harriers Club 7.5 Cross Country, Joydens Wood (Sat. 27th Dec.)

Fifty of us enjoyed a good workout, and work-off of any Christmas excesses, on a sunny winter afternoon in Joydens Wood, roughly a fifty-fifty split between Cambridge Harriers and guests from other clubs, reports Clem Dixon The largest non-Cambridge contingent came from Dartford Harriers and included the men's winner James Rolls who ran in a group of four to start with but then opened up a gap of a minute and a half on the rest of the field. The next five were all Cambridge, John O'Mahony continued his good run of form to take more than a minute off his time from a year ago and to take home the Club trophy and gold medal with James Macdonald taking silver and Jonathan Sargent bronze.

The women's race was won by Charlotte Broyd of Greenwich Tritons with Hazel Reade of the London Frontrunners second. Third, and winner of the Cambridge medal and trophy, was Olesya Golovina, a recent convert to cross country and a welcome addition to the squad. The Cambridge silver medal went to Lesley McCarthy who is no stranger to these races but was in with a chance of a medal for the first time on account of having joined us as second claim recently. Bronze went to Maggie Illingworth.
