Club hosts a spectacularly successful Club Trials

Updated: May 20, 2021

The club hosted a spectacularly successful Club Trials event on Saturday 15th May at Sutcliffe. We attracted entries from 138 young athletes of whom approximately 50% were non members and signed up 17 new members on the day. There were PB’s a plenty as lots of our junior members got their first competitive outing for a year. The U17 men’s 100m was always going to be a show down between training partners and groups with Dante Legister coming out as top dog in 11.18 but with Dejaune Lingard closing fast at the finish to take second in 11.23. there were similar battles across all the age groups with Shawanna Williams just beating Chichi Cooper over both 100 and 200m in the U17 women’s age group.

In the 800’s it was great to see the light blue Cambridge vests streaming round the track and again there were PB’s a plenty as the training the youngsters have been putting in started to pay off.

In the field Hannah Bridge threw a massive PB of 12.53 to improve her shot put by over a meter and put her in the UK top ten for U17 women. Her younger brother Michael did equally well in the Under 13 event and promptly joined the club.

The club’s first league match of the season is at Dartford this coming Sunday (23rd) when the Under 13 and under 15 Girls and Boys teams compete in the Kent League.
