South of England U15 / U17 Championships

Updated: Jan 11, 2021

Rather disappointingly this very prestigious event was attended by only 11 athletes across all the age groups from Cambridge Harriers AC, despite emails going out to all coaches/team-managers/athletes reminding them of the event. Strong headwinds saw a lot of sprint times down across the board and very few PBs gained, but this didn’t stop the athletes who turned up from trying their best.  Highlight of the day had to be Nana Gyedu’s shot put Championship best throw of 14.41m earning her 1st and beating Divine Oladipo’s 2015 U17s championship record of 13.71m in the process. Hannah and Christian Hopper also came 1st in the U17 girls and U15 boys 3000m Walk, and special mention also goes out for Prince Mulamba’s progression into the final of the 100m sprints with his qualifying heat time of 11.85 and his time of 11.65 and 4th placing in the final. Special mention also goes out to Kacey Walters for coming 3rd in the high jump event and winning a bronze medal, a trip and accidental touch of the bed had Kacey just missing out on 2nd place and a silver medal on countback, it was that close.  She also took part in the triple jump and gained 5th place with her jump of 10.21m, which unfortunately was wind assisted, but the fact she managed to clear 10.00m + 10.04 on 2 other of her jumps on the day, so bodes well for her in this event.
