SCVAC Indoor Championships

Updated: Oct 9, 2020

Southern Counties Veterans AC is probably the only club in the country that organises an annual standalone indoor club championship.  Non-member master athletes can compete as guests, but medals are only awarded to SCVAC members in each of the masters 5-year age groups.

This year’s championships featured 6 Cambridge Harriers competing in a total of 9 events. Wole Odele and Matthew Preston were the busiest, with Wole competing in 3 events and Matthew completing a challenging 800m & 3000m double.

In the M55 800m, Wole stuck closely behind the race leader for the first 3½ laps before stepping up the pace with a sprint finish to snatch victory by 0.01s in an indoor best of 2:20.77. He completed his hat-trick with wins in the M55 60m and 400m.

The M45 races were Matthew’s first outing over both distances this season, finishing in 2:16.59 and 10:20.09.

Other Harriers competing were Natalie Mann (W35) and Peter Wishart (M55) in the Shot Put, Geraldine Legon in the 3k walk (W60), and Mick Ellsmore in the M65 3000m.
