Sunday saw an early start for the Lydd Half Marathon & 20 mile races - the fog seemed determined to slow us down on the road but we arrived in plenty of time for a 10am start. A perfect preparation race for spring marathons saw a large number of both non- and club-runners turn out for what proved to be a sunny, but very windy(!), day in Lydd. The wind didn't let up for the duration of the run but that failed to stop the many Cambridge Harriers who turned out to run.
The course itself is a flat-ish out-and-back 13.1/20 miles and is very much open to the elements - fine when the wind is on your back but that didn't seem to happen too often! After cheering in a number of Cambridge Harriers there was time to reflect on the morning; it is a very well-run, friendly event which provides great marathon preparation for a lot of runners. As for myself I was running the half marathon and was proud to be passed by the first three Cambridge runners looking fresh and finishing very respectfully in in 3rd, 7th and 10th places.
Unfortunately the timing equipment blew just before the race start therefore only times available will be gun times.
