After a rough nights sleep Hayley and I woke up to a chilly race morning. We tried to eat a small breakfast but it was hard whilst nervous. However once the start horn sounded all nerves disappeared. I had a better swim than expected even though the water was choppy and it was a non wetsuit swim. There was a long run into transition and I managed to make up some more time. Once on the bike I was feeling good. I came together with 4 or 5 girls and we were able to work together for the 20K. The course was pretty flat and we managed to get round it without any hiccups. Once off the bike and into T2 I was feeling shattered. But with only the run to go I knew I had to try and stay ahead of the other girls in my age group. I managed a sub 19 minute 5K to finish the race which was my aim! By the last 100m I knew I had won my age group but I had a sprint finish to also take second overall female. It was my best race so far but still hoping to improve my times for the World Championships in Lausanne!
