Club hosts big week for middle distance runners

Updated: Oct 9, 2020

This week sees the club hosting not one, but two British Milers’ Club events at Sutcliffe Park. Tonight will see the staging of a regional event and Saturday sees the second staging of a national BMC Grandprix event.

Tonights meeting will see a number of Cambridge Harriers competing. Matthew Preston and Wole Odele will run over 800m and Joshua Olawunmi and Gervace Card will go over 1500m. In the 5000m Bayley Massey, Phil Dickens and Liam Mclaughlin will run the 12 and half laps.

In the womens 800m, in what could be a meeting highlight, Adelle Tracey and Revee Walcott-Nolan will be hoping to get under two minutes.

Saturday night will see the staging of the high class middle distance meeting where athletes come from all over the country and from outside the country as well. Of the athletes set to compete: in the mens U23 George Mills has best seasons best with 1.48.42 so he will be looking to break 1.48 for the first time. Club mates from Brighton Phoenix, Archie Davis and Robbie Fitzgibbon will also be hoping to break 1.48.

Daniel Bebbington and Tom Dodd (U23) lead the 1500m entries. Both have run 3.45 PB’s this year.

In the 5000m – Tom Mortimer and Stephen Scullion have PB’s inside 14 mins from last year but have not broken 14mins this year so they will be looking to change this.

In the womens events Australian Catriona Bisset leads the 800m entries with a PB set this year of 1.59.78. Mari Smith and Revee Walcot-Nolan will be looking to run close to 2mins.

Jess Judd will be favourite in the 1500m, targeting 4.05.

In the 5000m Jennifer Nesbitt looks to be in shape to threaten her PB of 15.51 set last year.

Tonight the meeting starts at 7pm and on Saturday the meeting starts at 5pm.
