Report by Peter Wishart
The BMAF Track and Field championships, which took place at Moorways stadium, Derby 10th to 12th June, saw five Cambridge Harriers taking part. The number was two down from last year, but this year there were two Vets competing in these championships for the first time.
Natalie Mann (W35) continues to rack up the medals in masters competitions. Competing in all five throws scheduled on the same day, she bagged 4 silver and a bronze. Podium finish in all five events.
Newcomer Chris Loudon (M35) took part in two very competitive races. Also scheduled on the same day. He placed 4th in the 800, and achieved 3rd place finish in the 1500 for bronze.
Mark Ashby (M60) , also taking part in his first British Masters national track and field championships, brought home a silver in the 3000m walk.
Peter Wishart (M60) finished 8th in the discus, missed the shot in preference for physiotherapy treatment on a sore Achilles, and returned to action with a PB in the weight throw; and another eighth place.
This report concludes with the performances of Warwick Dixon (M85). The trend continues. In reporting on his performances, one just has to change the date! He completed the weekend with his normal tally of five gold medals in all five throws. Although he was pushed in the shot, winning by just 4cm, a victory he snatched in the last round. However, a win is a win as the saying goes.
Well done to all who took part. Once again, everyone came back from the championships with either a PB, or a medal.
