British Athletics Indoor Championship

Glasgow

Two of Cambridge Harriers middle distance runners, Caroline Ford and Sabrina Sinha, were invited to the British Indoor Athletics Championships last weekend. Sabrina fresh from fifth place in BUCS indoors the previous weekend ran well in her her 1500m heat to qualify for the final as a fastest loser. In the final on Sunday she sensibly positioned herself in the middle of the pack on the outside. It meant she had to run further but she was clear. The pace picked up at 400m to go and Sabrina kicked three times but could not out-sprint all her rivals finishing in a sixth place with a new indoor PB of 4:23.42. Qualification for the 800m final was tough with only one guaranteed place and three fastest losers. Inevitably it meant that the tendency was to sprint from the gun. Caroline Ford ran well but finished in fifth place in 2:11.46. If winter form is a sign of things to come lets hope that both runners have a cracking summer. Second claim club member Luc Legon appearing for Bexley AC was rewarded for the long trip to Glasgow with a Bronze medal in the 5k walk. It was the first time that the Indoor Championships had been held in Glasgow. The Emirates Arena was a good modern venue and the organisers and volunteers worked hard to make everyone welcome. It was, however, a pity about the weather…torrential horizontal rain, floods, hail, wind and for good measure snow. This really put us off any sight seeing or even at one point leaving the hotel.
