38 yr club record smashed by U13 Boys for double gold at Kent Relay Champs

Updated: Jan 10, 2021

Having already breezed through the 4x200m heats our Under 13 boys sprint team took apart the 4x100m club record (that had stood since 1980) during the Championship heats on a warm afternoon at Medway Park.

The quartet of Mubarrak Salih, Dayo Sijuade, Dontay Thomas and Joshua Jackson were dominant from the off, with Mubarrak putting the other teams under immediate pressure with his lightening quick starts.

They made the 4x200m look easy, winning both the heat and final by over 4 seconds.

Faultless with the baton until the 4x100m final, the boys decided to make it interesting for the spectators (but nerve-wracking for us) with a scrappy handover or two.

A tense final 60m followed but Joshua managed to do enough to pull away from a strong finishing Tonbridge team to seal their second gold of the day.

All credit to the boys, they deserved their medals.

A special mention also to Ben Tranter who was the 5th member of the squad but didn’t get to run, he was there supporting his team mates and has been a key member of the squad throughout the season.
