For the first time this season Cambridge Harriers were able to put out a reasonably strong side, which was reflected in the final result.
On the track there were good performances from all. In the 100m all our athletes were M50 or above. Wole Odele continued to capitalise on his good form by placing 2nd in the A string with 12.9 secs, ably backed up by Paris Hunt who limped across with a hamstring problem, but still coming 5th with 14.5 secs. Stanley Thomas looked strong in coming 2nd in the M50 with 13.0 and Tim Carter also ran well for 2nd in the M60 with 14.3 secs.
In the 800m, good to see Andy Knight return for a disciplined 2nd in the A string with 2m 11.0, with Matthew Preston 3rd in the B string with 2 min 16.7 secs. Wole Odele then possibly ran quicker in the last 100 of the M50 race than he had in the 100, storming through for 3rd in 2 min 25.3 secs.
In the field there were the usual suspects producing the usual quality. In the Shot, Tony Tipping dropped down an age group to finish 2nd in the M35 with 10.48 m, Pete Wishart came 3rd in the M50 with 8.36m and Peter Hawney provided the team with its only individual win of the night in the M60 with 8.90m. In the javelin, Paris was 4th in the M35 event with a pb throw of 33.04m with Tony Tipping 2nd in the M50 with 34.94m. The high jump was hotly contested and Wole jumped a PB of 1.50m to finish 2nd in the M35 and Paris was 4th in the M50 with 1.25m.
That left the 4 x 100 relay in which the team made up of Wole, Stan, Tim and Andy finished 5th in 54.5 secs. Team positions are as follows for the meeting:
