Kent League Match 1– U13 Boys

Updated: Jan 12, 2021

We took the short trip to Bromley for the opening KYAL fixture of the season.

On yet another scorching day the Boys put in a fantastic team display to finish as the 2nd best U13 Boys team in Division 1 on the day. This result was even more impressive given that we had three boys making their competitive debuts for the club –  Aidan Newton, Tomisin Awolowo and Dayo Sijuade. Aidan stepped out of his comfort zone in the discus and shot before capping a fine debut in a very hot 1500m. Tomisin impressed in the sprint hurdles, claiming 1st place in his first race before filling non-scoring spots on the 100m and long jump. Last but not least out of the debutants, Dayo ran a strong 200m that would have been good enough for 2nd in the B race and took up the B string place in the long jump.

2nd season team members Jack Adams and Dontay Thomas had solid performances. Jack filled the A slots in the Shot and Javelin, coming a creditable 3rd with a 20m + throw. Sandwiched in between the field events he ran 1500m but paid the price for going off too quickly in the heat. Dontay ran well in the sprints, earning a pb in the 100.

Ben Tranter added more events to his repertoire, turning out in the javelin and high jump for the first time and filling the A slot in the long jump for the 2nd successive match. He’s competed in all of his events with a smile, nothing seems to have fazed him yet.

The A string sprints starred Joshua Jackson and he looks like he’s making himself the boy to beat in Kent this season, gliding his way to 1st places and Grade 1 times in the 100m and 200m.

The final event gave us our 4th victory of the day as Dontay Thomas, Dayo Sijuade, Ben Tranter and Joshua Jackson lined up in the 4x100m to record a time of 55.17, not only making them the fastest team in Kent so far this season but ranking them 9th in the UK. Incidentally, that time also makes them the fastest Cambridge Harriers U13 Boys quartet over the past 10 years.

The Man of the Match trophy this time around goes to Ben Tranter who has already turned out in 6 different events in the two matches so far and proved himself to be a real asset to the team.
