Kent Indoor Championships

Lee Valley Indoor Athletics Centre


Twenty four club members took part in the annual indoor champs at Lee Valley last weekend bringing back nineteen medals between them. Best club performance of the day was probably the Under 15 Girls 60m where the club claimed gold,silver and bronze courtesy of Shian Brock Walters, Mary Shouvaloff and Renay Thomas. Shiann had already won gold from the difficult inside lane in the 200 on Saturday before taking the double on the Sunday. In the senior categories there was a 1-2 for Omari Markland Montgomery and Wade Thompson in the men’s 60m whilst Lucy Marlow ran a very well paced race to win the senior women’s 1500m with a time frustratingly outside 5 minutes (5.00.64). Best performance of the weekend was from Vera Chinedu who won the under 17 60 by two metres in 7.68 to cement her position as number one in the UK for this distance this year In the field Ben Stanbury won two silvers in the High Jump and Pole Vault with 1.70 and 3.00m respectfully whilst Anika Olalere gained a good bronze in the under 20 Shot put with a throw of 9.44m Back on the track there were golds for two of the club’s walkers – Suki Ly in the under 15 Girls 1k walk and Evie Butcher in the U17 event. Lara Atkinson ran a pb of 2.28.25 for silver in the under 17 800m whilst Molly Hughes claimed bronze in the under 20 event Finally there were more medals in the sprints courtesy with silvers being earned by Brandon Mingelli (U17 mens 60), Micky Ashong (U17 women 60 hurdles) and Jade Fitt (U17 women 300) and there were bronzes for Luke Moore (U17 Mens 200) Hatshepsut James (SW 200) and Shekina George Lawal (U20 Womens 60).
