Gold for Nana & Brandon

ALEXANDER STADIUM, BIRMINGHAM

Seven club members participated in the annual English schools championships at Birmingham last weekend and two came away with gold medals Nana Gyedu found the 10am start on Friday a big ask and was short of her best but still pulled out a 13.61 throw to win gold in the under 17 shot put. Indeed the distance would have been enough to win both the under 19 event as well and she now flies off to Scotland for her first international vest next weekend Brandon Mingeli a finalist for the last two years in 100m finally got gold this year in the under 19 event. A 10.78 semi set him up as the fastest qualifier and then a 10.83 final into a 2m headwind secured the title Marian Owusuwaah (Under 15 100m) and Jade Fitt (Under 19 400 hurdles) both made their finals with fine runs – Jade running a great pb of 64.07 to win her heat, but both found the final tough finishing 8th and 7th respectfully. Luke Okosieme took 7th in the Under 19 high Jump with 1.92m, Abbie Stewart 9th in the under 17 discus with 29.28m whist Prince Mulumba ran 11.84 into a headwind in the Under 15 boys 100m but was not quick enough to progress to the final
