Weekly Update - 8th Nov. 2023

Reigate Priory Cross Country Relays, Reigate (Sat. 4th Nov.)

A cross country relay race for separate teams of 4 men and 3 women, each running approximately 2.25 mile legs over an undulating course within Reigate’s Priory Park, writes Christian Poulton.

Due to park maintenance work the course was altered this year forming an out and back route approximately a quarter of a mile shorter than the original 2.5 mile circular course.

After a number of drop-outs during the week only three men turned up to race, presenting a minor difficulty for a teams of four. However, some internal wrangling and a change to the paperwork gave a solution with some doubling up to complete the team.

The team was led off by James Macdonald who, after not only having just raced the Frankfurt Marathon the previous Sunday but also Bushy Parkrun earlier in the day, ran a storming first leg to hand over to Christian Poulton for the second leg. Tarbo Fukazawa ran a strong third leg to bring us into the final fourth leg, handing over again to Christian Poulton (pictured - courtesy of Reigate Photographic Society) for his second lap of the course.

Individual Results: 9 James Macdonald 13:34; 64 Tarbo Fukazawa15:33; 108 Christian Poulton16:34; 109 Christian Poulton16:35. Team: 11th 1:02:16.

Club Fireworks Night (Sat. 4th Nov.)

The club’s fireworks night went off well last Saturday with 70 members and guests attending for fireworks, food and a bonfire, which took a bit of coaxing but finally lit after the week of heavy rain. Big thanks to David Reader who organised and acted as chief firework lighter.
