Weekly Update - 26th Oct. 2022

Cambridge Harriers Club 5 Mile Cross Country, Joydens Wood

Fifty of us enjoyed warm autumn sunshine for the first of our annual series of three races in Joydens Wood before returning to the clubhouse for the usual refreshments, reports Clem Dixon.

Newly installed club president Dean Lacy was a winner yet again, by my reckoning that takes the number of these races that Dean has run in up to 25, 25 appearances and 25 wins, an incredible achievement. This time it was James Macdonald and Bobby Babaker who got closest to him, but they had to settle for the silver and bronze.

First lady home was the home club's Julie Backley with Christine Lutsch, also of Cambridge, second and Greenwich Triton Lesley McCarthy third.

Special mention must go to our first ever blind competitor; the mud, uneven ground and many exposed tree roots of the woods are a significant challenge for anyone, but Runhead AC's Eros Adamides, partnered by guide runner Sarah Tizzard, seemed to take it all in his stride.

Full results are here:

The next race in the series is the 7.5 miles on 27th December.

Leeds Abbey Dash 10km

Sunday's Leeds Abbey Dash 10km was the second of four qualifying races for selection to the England Masters Team at the next representative race in Chester planned for March next year. Susan Dixon finished 647th overall and third W55 in a time of 42:09, gaining automatic selection for the Chester race, as the first three in each age group automatically qualified, providing they had bettered the qualifying standard of 48:11. Sally Carr crossed the line in 924th place (15th W50) with a time of 46:11.

Royal Borough of Kingston Half-Marathon

Charlie Allen was the sole Cambridge Harrier at this event finishing in 33rd place with a time of 1:24:55.
