Cambridge Harrier Ultramarathon runner beat MPS

Updated: Oct 13, 2020

In the 25th running of the MPS Lyke Wake Walk 42-mile ultramarathon across the North Yorkshire Moors, the BTP team of Insp James Merchant and Cambridge Harrier Sgt Steve Brown beat the five time champions SO15 Counter Terrorist Command and set a new course record time of 7:44:53. It was originally a walking competition but for the past seven years the team have challenged MPS teams to run the Lyke Wake route and this year, avoiding injury, they triumphed over their nemesis and took the prestigious shield trophy. The course runs from Ravenscar to Osmotherly and comprises over 4,000ft of ascent, moors, bogs and trail paths and is acknowledged as one of the toughest ultramarathons.
