If ever there was a lesson that every place and every hundredth of a second counts it was in the very close W45 team event. On a fast flat course Louise Knight led the team home with an excellent fast sprint finish to clinch a well deserved bronze medal in a very competitive field. In the W45 team competition there was just one place in it as we ended the day on equal points with Kent AC. The second scorer Sue Dixon in fourteenth place had beaten her rival by merely one hundredth of a second and our last scorer Cara Oliver (18th) had bested her opponent by two hundredths! So their magnificent sprint finishes were crucial. The rules state that in the event of a tie its the highest last finisher who determines where the medals go and although Kent AC had 4 and 9 their last runner was 22nd as opposed to Cara’s 18th. Great running ladies!
In the W35 completion Masters debutante Lucy Marlow came home in 8th and Sally Carr our other starter came 35th in the W45 despite a troublesome hip.
