FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE MONTH:
Sophie Lewis Ward was our female Athlete of the Month for April. Representing England, Sophie finished second in an international field of youth race walkers in Podebrady in a time of 23:36 which was well inside the qualifying time for July’s European Youth Championship. She followed this up with victory in the U20 10K at the RWA Championship in Hillingdon later in the month.
MALE ATHLETE OF THE MONTH:
Our Male Athlete of the Month was shared by our three athletes that made up our fourth placed team in the National Marathon Championships at the London Marathon. Sub 2:30 runs for Ben Shearer (2:25:13), Rob Jackaman (2:27:49) and Danny Kendall (2:29:53) meant Cambridge were behind only Notts AC, Serpentine and Bournemouth in the championship team race, and just 2 minutes and 10 seconds from winning bronze medals. Ben Also won the Paddock Wood Half Marathon earlier in the month in a time of 69:28, whilst Rob was fifth in the Vienna Half Marathon in 71:21.
