Joydens Wood Cross Country Races - Information

Club5-2016.JPG

The dates for our three cross country races for the 2024/25 season are as follows:

5 miles - Saturday 19th October

7.5 miles - Saturday 28th December

10 miles - Saturday 1st February

Entry is available on the day only, £3 for members of Cambridge Harriers and £5 for everyone else, at the clubhouse between 11:00 and 11:30 or at the start up to 11:50, but please be aware that there is no parking close to the start.

Contactless payment preferred for entries and refreshments at the clubhouse (cash only in the woods)

All races start at 12 noon.

These races take place in Joyden's Wood, Bexley and are open to all. We look forward to welcoming members of other clubs as well as our own, and non-attached runners, to our Bexley clubhouse.

The races take place in picturesque undulating woodland and are suitable for those trying cross country running for the first time as well as the more experienced. Although there may be some muddy sections many of the trails in the woods are quite stony; the general consensus is that the course is not suitable for spikes.

The start is about 1.5 miles from the clubhouse with most runners jogging between the two as a warm-up/down. Don't worry if you don't know the way, there will be plenty of us there who do.

Facilities at the clubhouse include parking, changing rooms, showers, refreshments and licensed bar.

Past results are here.

If you are looking for a race with chip timing, frequent water stations and medals the size of dinner plates then look elsewhere. But if you fancy trying a traditional race hosted by a local club where little has changed since the 1950s then this could be for you.

The clubhouse address is 60a Glenhurst Avenue, Bexley, DA5 3QW. It is a 10 minute walk from Bexley train station. Here is a map.

For those familiar with the dying art of using OS map references the start is at TQ497723, alternatively for What3words users: ///shelf.toxic.chop
